Childbirth Prep...Check!

Last night was the conclusion of our childbirth prep class.  Kyle is VERY glad they are over and I guess I am as well.  We learned a lot and now I just can’t wait to have this baby girl!

I really enjoyed two things, our teacher…she was great!  She now works in public health now, otherwise, I’d request her for my nurse.  The second part I liked was the weekly updates from all of the women.  Sure we are all at different stages, but it’s nice to hear what others are experiencing, it validates what you’re experiencing.

My biggest fear when we started this class was that we would deliver before the class was over and not be prepared.  Thankfully, we made it through.  Now if we can just make it two more weeks for our baby safe class, we’ll be all set.

Last night we talked medicines, postpartum, breastfeeding and practiced some breathing techniques.  Yikes, I knew I didn’t want to know anything about an epidural except that it numbs your lower half.  For now…I think I’d rather have natural childbirth than have that needle anywhere near me!  Yikes!  We’ll see when the day comes.

The last part of the night we practiced breathing techniques.  I was very glad for this because as a Type A person….I need relaxation breathing!  We learned two that are most commonly used, relaxation keeping your breath steady and calm.  The other one is dubbed Bill Cosby.  It’s a much faster breath and you have to concentrate too much on whether to heeee or hoooo…I’m opting for the steady one.

As my updated eluded yesterday, could be anytime, or at least that is the impression I got from the doctor.  I’d love another 10 days…but I’m not making the decisions.

35.5 weeks...

Things are changing!

Weekly update

How far along: 35.5 weeks
Total weight gain: 31 lbs
Maternity clothes: yes, purchased a larger pair of maternity jeans…I never thought I’d grow out of what I had.  All my pants were just too uncomfortable.
Sleep: I’m thankful to get a few hours at a time
Best moment this week: finding out that we are ½ cm dilated!
Movement: Everything you read says movement will slow down when you get toward the end because there isn’t a lot of room to move.  She is still moving a lot and for hours at a time
Gender: Female
Labor Signs: yes, contractions happen, not sure if they are the practice ones or real.
Dilated: ½ cm
Belly Button in or out: in, barely
Direction of baby: She is head down and in anterior position (facing backward, it’s easier for baby to be delivered this way)
What I miss: a glass of wine on a random Wednesday afternoon at 5:00pm with mom and Kel
What I’m looking forward to: next week’s appointment.  Any guess on how dilated I’ll be?

Childbirth classes

Last night was the second of four eye opening childbirth classes.  We really like the teacher, she has a calm demeanor and gives us numerous sides to what may or may not happen.

The first night we got to know each of the twelve couples.  It was pretty interesting to hear where people were from, we are the only “locals”, how far along, jobs, etc.  We have figured out that we are maybe the youngest in our class which is very interesting.  And nearly half of these women are planning on staying at home and have already quit their jobs!  I was shocked and still am, kind of.  There is also one couple who may not make it through the entire class because she is due May 11th!  Nothing like being behind the 8ball!

We did a group activity where the men and women were separated and as a group we wrote down the best and worst things about being pregnant.  It was funny what the men had to say.  The women, wow….they were just rambling off all these “worst” things about being pregnant, none of which I have experienced.  I like being pregnant, haven’t had any of the heartburn, constipation, huge weigh gain, swollen, major backache, morning sickness and nausea that everyone else has experienced.  I’ve been blessed with a very easy, I “love being pregnant” almost 9 months.   For most of them coming up with the best things about being pregnant were hard.  We also went over the basics of labor, and some relaxation breathing techniques.

Last night we started by going around and updated on how far along we were, if we had a Dr. appointments/what’s going on in the pregnancy and how we are feeling.  The range of due dates is nearly two months, from May 11th to the first week of August, so the 12 women in the class are at very different stages.  Most of the class is due in June or July, with three of us in May.

We had the “pleasure” of watching the birthing video last night.  It wasn’t too bad, although I have to admit, I closed my eyes for the 4 second delivery of the placenta.  I just don’t want to know.  Giving birth doesn’t scare me and I’m not afraid of the pain.  Some of the women in our class are paralyzed by the thought of giving birth and they want an epidural as soon as they can have one.  Me…well, I’m not for or against…we just see when the time comes.

Next week we get a tour of the labor and delivery floor.  I can’t wait to see what the environment will be.  Just to have a vision of where I’ll be during this time will be nice.  Two more Wednesday nights filled with all sorts of info about labor, delivery, the hospital, medicines, and post partum.  We are so close!

A shower filled with love

It was a wonderful shower hosted by Kelly, Kari and my mom. Thank you so much, it means the world to me!

Another look at my world of pregnancy, week 33!

Being that this was the second appointment that I gained 3lbs, I guess it’s just what’s a happenin’!  I’m pregnant and you are supposed to gain weight.  I’m getting used to it…7.5 months in, about time.

All looks good, she is moving like crazy, it was a very long day yesterday, I’m pretty sure she didn’t sleep at all.  Needless to say, today she is much “quieter”, the girl needs her beauty sleep.

We have another appointment in two weeks which is when the fun begins.  They will check my cervix from here on out to see if I’m dilated. The following appointments are every week and scheduled.  Nothing like having 5 doctor’s appointment on the calendar.  We’re having a baby!

I pray she comes before the due date, I really want to go naturally, rather than being induced.  If all goes as it has, following exactly how my mom was, I’ll go naturally.  Just don’t want to get my hopes up.

We being our childbirth prep classes tonight.  I’m very excited to see what they have to tell us.  Its three hours of non-stop info every Wednesday evening of this month. Tonight we get a tour of the hospital and the birthing suites and who know what else.

Weekly update

How far along: 33 weeks
Total weight gain: 27 lbs
Maternity clothes: yes, leggings are my favorite, no tight elastic bands around my waist.
Sleep: bad nights…and some good nights.  I’m so thankful for the good nights!
Best moment this week: having two people tell me I look small and they think I’m going to have a little baby.  Telling a pregnant woman she look small does wonders, because honey I don’t feel small!
Movement: the book says “try to determine what is moving: hands, feet, knees, butt”.  Right, she is moving, that’s all that matters.  I know when her feet move because they are still in my ribs.
Gender: Female
Labor Signs: Braxton Hicks are happening more frequently
Belly Button in or out: in
What I miss: going to a deli and getting a sandwich, a beer or glass of wine is beginning to sound really good, especially since baseball season has started!
What I am looking forward to: another baby shower on Saturday and getting the nursery ready…
